SHAUNS California: Spring 2017 Ophthalmic Collection

The SHAUNS California Spring collection includes 3 brand new ophthalmic styles; The Huntly, Errol and Keir. The collection was heavily inspired by cubist sculpture and the work of German artist William Wauer in particular.

The Errol and Huntly, both make use of a distinct, angular top line that adds a modern flair to two tailored eye shapes, and directly evokes the cubism reference. The Keir, a round eye shape, subtly adds distinction to its silhouette by the dynamic transition of frame thickness from browline to bottom. The style also features a unique milling pattern which gives the frame front a satisfying curved cross section on both front and back side.

The design team were interested in the flow of such a milling pattern in a round eye shape, but also the satisfying feel in the hand – citing the olympic Discus as a inspiration for this detail.

The Collection also introduces 2 new temple designs to the SHAUNS collection. These new styles now feature a temple tip built out to 6 millimeters and sculpted with 3 angular ridges. The temple has been introduced in two thicknesses.
